Frequently asked Questions!

Will the whole team leave for Cambodia at the same time?
No.  The team members intend to leave for Cambodia over an 18-month period due to varying education requirements and personal responsibilities here at home.

Will the team serve together in Cambodia?
We desire to stay together, however there is a remote possibility that we could be assigned to different areas. Our team has communicated with World Team field leadership in Cambodia that we want to be allocated wherever we can be most effective in planting the church in Cambodia. Ultimately, the individual or family and field leadership, in consultation with Davisville leadership, will decide upon the assignments.

Who is World Team?
World Team is the sending agency that Davisville has chosen to partner with to help send the team to Cambodia.  Their US office is located in nearby Warrington.  World Team currently has about 20 missionaries in Cambodia.  To learn more about World Team go to www.worldteam.org

Will you live in the city or villages?
Probably both. A required 2-year language and culture school will be conducted in the capital city, Phnom Penh. After language learning, the team members will most likely resettle in the provinces where spiritual needs are high.

When should I begin my financial support?
That is completely up to the individual. Any pledges toward a team member’s monthly support will be counted as a pledge, but those funds will not be accessed as monthly support until that team member departs for Cambodia. However, one-time outgoing costs also need to be raised, so any monies that are sent in prior to departure (including monthly pledges) go directly into that fund for outgoing expenses. Both funds need to be at 100% before a team member can leave for Cambodia. Since outgoing needs are fairly high, we encourage people to begin giving as soon as they can in order to meet this challenge.

What is the size of Cambodia?
If you’re asking about population – it’s just under Pennsylvania’s 12.3 million – coming in at 12.2 million.  If you were thinking about land mass – this time Cambodia wins – stretching out at 70, 000 square miles. By contrast, Pennsylvania measures 45, 000 square miles.

What will the team be doing in Cambodia?
For approximately the first 2 years after arrival all team members will be studying language and culture in the capitol, Phnom Penh.  After this, it is likely that we will join or become a church-planting team in a particular province where little or no Christian witness exists.  This means that we will live among the people, build relationships in various ways and invite Cambodians to chronological Bible studies in their language (Khmer).  The goal here is to disciple potential Cambodian spiritual leaders who have become Christians and release THEM to begin a national church movement in their province.

Why was Cambodia chosen for this mission?
Cambodia was chosen as a target location for a church-planting team by Davisville’s church leadership and World Team for the following reasons:
1. It is open to missionaries, meaning, Christians can come to the country for the express purpose of sharing the gospel.
2. The entire country uses one language (Khmer), so our team would only need to learn one language to minister wherever they are in Cambodia.
3. The entire Bible has already been translated into the Khmer language.
4. Cambodia is a country where a variety of skills and giftedness can be used to reach all levels of society.   Some countries need missionaries, which are highly skilled in specific areas in order to be effective in ministry.  Cambodia is not one of these.
5. Cambodia and the Khmer people are still considered “unreached”, meaning that very few Cambodians have access to the gospel.  Less than ½ of one percent of the population in Cambodia are Christians.
6 Of the 29 countries still considered unreached (see No.5 above), 10 are open to the gospel and Cambodia is one of those ten.
