The Hartsfield Family

Pat & Jeannie met @ Messiah College in the late-80’s and were married in Oct. of 1990. They moved to Philadelphia-area for Pat to pursue a job in sports medicine and for Jeannie to return to Temple University to pursue her M Ed. in Counseling Psychology. They began attending Davisville Baptist Church in 2003 and quickly became involved in a small group – which has led to life-long friendships and mentors. They began leading a small group shortly after the birth of their daughter Hannah in 1996. Seth was born 2 years later in 1998 and Luke 3 yrs. later in 2001. Throughout these years, both Pat and Jeannie steadily grew more involved in ministry at Davisville – Pat serving as an elder for 8 yrs. until our move to Cambodia, teaching classes and leading a small group; Jeannie serving for 7 yrs. in the MOPS ministry, co-leading a small group with Pat, teaching in the Davisville Homeschool Co-Op and singing in the choir and later with the worship team. We loved serving in ministry there and had never really considered becoming missionaries. In the Fall of 2002, they were asked to join a new class geared towards looking at world missions and the response of Christians to a world-wide need for the Gospel...this, as they say, is the “rest of the story”. After visiting Cambodia in 2003 and joining World Team in 2004, they proceeded to raise support funds, sell their home of 10 yrs, continue homeschooling their 3 children, leave the corporate world (Pat) and set out on the adventure of a lifetime. They would have it no other way...it has always been a matter of obedience for us, not necessarily a “call to missions” per se...we have attempted to follow God’s leading in our lives, through His amazing pursuit of us as His dearly loved children.

Proverbs 19:21 states, “Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”  When Jeannie and I were asked in September of 2002 to participate in a missions mentoring class, our first inclination was to decline.  We were both very involved in our church, and quite honestly, neither of us wanted to add another thing to our schedule.  But…it is the “Lord’s purposes that prevail”, and as the saying goes, “the rest is history”.

My Dad and I were talking about our decision, and he commented how comforting it is to get confirmation from the Lord that you are following God’s will for your life.  That has been so true for us throughout this process – God has brought unity to Jeannie and I in this decision; He has generated excitement in our children; He has surrounded us with an incredible team; He is supplying our every need, from the most unlikely sources; and He has brought incredible encouragement from our church, our friends, and our family.
